This Position:

The Director or Senior Director of Insights will have a cross-portfolio role, spanning 2 of Clarion’s key practice areas: Tech & Telecomm and Media & Entertainment. This is a unique opportunity to work in the epicenter of 2 rapidly evolved and convergent industries, on behalf of many of Clarion’s blue chip clients. When needed, you’ll be called on to support other practice areas, as all team members are.

You’ll be primarily responsible for ownership over quantitative primary research activations, oftentimes multiple studies concurrently:

  • You’ll be tasked with designing custom studies autonomously or in collaboration with others, including cost and technical proposals.
  • For assigned projects, you will have ownership over quality assurance, budget, and timing efficiency for all phases of work.
  • You’ll be directly responsible for managing Clarion staff, as well as external consultants and suppliers.
  • This role is client-facing – you will interface with Clarion clients and their internal stakeholders.
  • You will report directly to the EVP of Tech & Telecomm Insights, and will have access to Clarion corporate leadership for guidance and idea generation.
  • Individuals who demonstrate proficiency are tracked for promotion to VP-level positions.
  • Business development is not required in this role, though can be discussed with Clarion management in the hiring process.

All candidates must possess 8-10 years of quantitative primary research experience, with at least 5 spent at a research supplier or research agency.

Skills Required:

  • Direct, hands-on personal experience doing quantitative primary research:
  • oCost and technical proposal development, including methodology and project specs.
  • oQuestionnaire writing - custom ad hoc studies as well as tracking studies.
  • oBeta testing online survey programs.
  • oSample procurement - online panels, purchased sample lists, client-provided lists, etc.
  • oDatabase management - Excel, SPSS.
  • oFieldwork and data collection management - setup and management of survey quotas, multi-panel studies, and on-the-fly problem solving.
  • oData cleaning & processing in Excel, SPSS, and cross-tabulation software such as WinCross.
  • oReport creation in PowerPoint - charting/graphing, dashboards, infographics.
  • Excellent project, time, budget, and logistical management skills.
  • Proven track record of managing clients and delivering actionable insights to over-deliver on value.
  • Ability to find the story in data and communicate that story in a compelling, cohesive, and visually appealing way.
  • Diverse quantitative methodological knowledge base - of traditional as well as innovative techniques.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong leadership skills: mentorship, management, and motivation of internal staff, as well as an entrepreneurial spirit to advance the business along with your personal brand.

Experience in media, entertainment, tech, or telecomm research a plus.

You’ll have project-based management responsibility over Analysts and/or Interns. You’ll report directly to the SVP of Media & Entertainment Insights. Individuals who demonstrate proficiency are tracked for promotion to Director and VP-level positions.

All candidates must possess 3-5 years of quantitative primary research experience, with at least 3 spent at a research supplier or research agency.
